Amado Territory Inn, a prime birding spot, birding in Southern ArizonaAmado Territory Ranch
Bird List
Birding in Southern Arizona

In 2003 The Tucson Chapter of the Audubon Society visited the ranch and put together the list below. This list shows our regular feathered visitors, but does not list every species we have seen on our 17 acres riparian habitat. We are located in Southern Arizona's migratory bird flyway which makes our ranch a unique birding spot all year round.

Positioned to the North and in the middle of the Santa Rita Mountain Range is Madera Canyon. This canyon is home to a vast number of insects, mammals and birds. The lush riparian habitat provides the perfect breeding grounds for such avian specialties as the Elegant Trogon, Painted Redstart, Broad-billed and Magnificent Hummingbirds and Elf and Whiskered screech Owls. Over one hundred species of birds are know to breed in Madera Canyon. It is one of the countries hottest birding spots, with the birder season starting in March with the arrival of hummingbirds and owls. July brings the spectacular monsoon rains and for many species of birds this is a second opportunity to breed.
